Malachite Polished Slab on Metal Stand

$82.00
Only 1 available

Dimensions: 4.5 x 4 x 0.25 inches (slab)

Material: Natural Malachite

Finish: Highly polished on a rose gold metal stand

Origin: Katanga Province, The Democratic Republic of the Congo

Green pools and ripples meander across this slab like water, settling into rings, dark and dense at the center, brighter and more open toward the edges. The face is polished to a deep, glassy shine, while a few edges stay raw and rough, showing where the stone was cut from the earth. A rose gold metal stand holds it upright.

Malachite is a copper carbonate that forms in the weathered upper zones of copper deposits, where mineral-rich water seeps through the rock and deposits thin layers one over another. Each shift in tone marks a change in the water’s chemistry as the layers built up, which is why the banding on a slab like this is never repeated. The rounded forms near the base are the stone’s natural botryoidal growth, cut through and polished, and the pattern on this piece is entirely one-of-a-kind.

Malachite has a long history as a stone of change. Ancient Egyptians ground it into pigment and used it to line the eyes, and Russian craftsmen later inlaid it into whole rooms. Malachite can relate to the heart chakra and with working through old and deeply ingrained patterns. This slice reveals the patterns in front of you: you can follow the rings from the outside in and see how they were laid down, one layer at a time, illustrating the motion to change and grow.

Malachite has a Mohs hardness of about 3.5 to 4 and is sensitive to acids, heat, and soaking. Wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of water and away from cleaning products.
